Experience the powerful history of the most decorated battleship in U.S. Navy history.
Now preserved as a museum in her namesake state, the battleship USS New Jersey (BB-62) served with distinction across four major conflicts. She saw intense combat during World War II and the Korean War and holds the unique distinction of being the only battleship of any nation to serve during the Vietnam War.
Following Vietnam, New Jersey was placed in reserve until the early 1980s, when the Reagan administration reactivated and modernized her alongside her three Iowa-class sisters — Iowa, Missouri, and Wisconsin — returning these legendary warships to active service. She was decommissioned for the final time in 1991.
In 1999, the Navy declared New Jersey surplus in a move that sparked national debate. Custody of the ship was transferred to the Home Port Alliance in Camden, New Jersey, where she is preserved today as a memorial and museum honoring the sailors who served aboard her.
This volume — part of the Legends of Warfare series — features more than 225 historic photographs documenting:
• Construction and launch• Combat operations during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam• Cold War modernization• Final decommissioning• Preservation as a museum
A must-have for naval history enthusiasts, veterans, collectors, and anyone connected to the legacy of America’s battleships.
